Art is not a luxury. Art is a tool for effective communication.
I am a climate communicator.
I assist people in creating effective sustainability messaging.
My background is Ecology and Evolutionary Biology and Science Illustration. With my experience in genetics, in 2015, I got curious about how to bridge the gap between the logarithmic rate of technological advancement and the linear rate of cultural integration of science. I was wondering how to use my experience as a science communicator to develop tools to bridge that gap.
After many conversations with colleagues, a strong emphasis was placed on climate change. In 2016, we applied for an NSF Advancing Informal STEM learning grant to produce a climate themed entertainment-education program for American audiences. That work evolved into the Rhythm and Glue screenplay, and is now being simplified as a set of criteria for producing cultural stories to improve the rate of climate mitigation and adaptation.
I’ll highlight:
The impacts of climate change on human health. This is an immediate public health crisis.
Rate of change per cost from entertainment-education is $0.04 USD to reach a person with important health and social messages.
And, the high rate of change from Positive Deviance.
So, for the indefinite future, I’ll be focusing on this. Please let me know how I can assist you.
I advise content and campaigns to support them making climate mitigation solutions Easy, Fun and Popular.
I create content such as illustration, stories, TV and music that models do-able, positive, solutions based climate mitigation and sustainability behaviors.
I pair sustainability campaigns with artists to create content.
I’m interested in strategic planning for climate communication. My goal is to increase the efficacy of the Alarmed, Concerned, and Cautious audiences by creating art that culturally normalizes climate solutions.
